 Shadows Depression Support Group

Picture
For the past nine years, Shadows has been a lifeline for people across Carmarthenshire, Neath Port Talbot and the surrounding areas. For the first three years, we operated entirely as a voluntary organisation, driven by compassion, lived experience, and a commitment to supporting anyone who needed us.
As demand grew and the need for accessible mental health support became impossible to ignore, we transitioned in 2020 into a not for profit support organisation. This allowed us to expand our work, open the Shadows Wellbeing Centre, and provide structured, reliable support to the thousands of people who now rely on us.
Since then, more than 5,000 people have walked through our doors seeking help, hope, and a safe place to breathe.

At Shadows and the Shadows Wellbeing Centre, we provide:
• Immediate suicide prevention support without waiting lists or referrals
• One to one Peer emotional support for people in crisis
• Peer support groups that reduce isolation and rebuild confidence
• Support for families and friends who are trying to help a loved one
• A range of wellbeing activities such as mindfulness, movement, gentle exercise, creative sessions and more
• A fully accessible wellbeing centre where everyone is welcome and included
Some of our wellbeing activities are currently free, thanks to short term grants and project funding. But many others are not — and this creates a barrier for people who desperately need support but cannot afford to pay.
This is what we want to change.
Every year, around this time, funding becomes harder to secure. Demand doesn’t slow down — in fact, it increases — and the people who need us cannot simply wait for the next funding cycle.

That is why we are launching this GoFundMe.
We want to:
• Keep our support sessions free and accessible
• Make more of our wellbeing activities free, removing financial barriers
• Continue offering suicide prevention support that is immediate and life saving
• Support families and friends who feel lost and overwhelmed
• Ensure no one in our community is ever turned away because they cannot afford to attend

A Gentle, Empathetic Call to Action
Reaching out for help is something we see every day at Shadows and the Shadows Wellbeing Centre. We know how hard it is for someone to walk through our doors and say, “I’m struggling.” It takes courage, vulnerability, and trust.
And today, we are doing something that feels just as difficult for us — we are reaching out too.
Asking for support is not easy. We are used to being the ones who hold others up, who listen, who sit beside someone in their darkest moment. But right now, we need help to continue being that safe place for the people who rely on us.
Every day, someone arrives carrying something heavy. Worry. Exhaustion. Grief. Loneliness. A sense of being overwhelmed. And every day, we sit with them, listen to them, and remind them that they are not alone.
This is why we are asking for your support.

If you have ever needed someone to sit with you in a difficult moment… If you have ever watched someone you love struggle and wished there was somewhere safe for them to turn… If you believe that every person deserves understanding, support, and a place where they can breathe again…
Then we gently ask you to support Shadows and the Shadows Wellbeing Centre.

Your donation — whatever you can give — helps someone feel seen. It helps someone feel safe. It helps someone stay connected when they feel like they’re slipping away. It helps a family who is frightened and unsure what to do. It helps a person who feels like they have no one left.
You are not just giving money. You are giving time, space, warmth, and hope to someone who desperately needs it.

If you can donate, thank you.
If you can share this page, thank you.
If you can simply hold us in your thoughts, thank you.

Every act of kindness strengthens Shadows and the Shadows Wellbeing Centre, allowing us to continue being here for the next person who reaches out — and for the people who love and Care for them.
